Types of UPVC Door Handles

If your bifold door handle replacement handle made of uPVC needs replacing it's essential to find the best replacement window handle for your home. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.

The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also called PZ) and the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum will tend to rotate in the direction that the force is applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would normally require more force to lift.

The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point you apply force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of lever.

Levers can also have a variety of effects depending on how the forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 tends to rotate in the opposite direction as the effort force is applied (like a totter-totter). If you push on the door's handle, the forces will produce the same rotational effects as this.

However, levers don't create energy. Levers increase the force by converting small amounts of effort applied over a longer distance into larger amounts of force that are applied over shorter distances. This is what allows you to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time, which is why levers are commonly employed to lift heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. This is also the reason behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars, fishing rods hammer claws and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They are available in various finishes and variations and can be installed on a variety of materials, including UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold as a pair for the outer and inner door, with screws and spindles included. They are also available in hand and unhandled versions for different users.

These are often used for new constructions and can be used to replace the existing doors made of upvc. The levers are raised to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide a bit more security than traditional lever door handles since locking can only be done through the inside with the key.

They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a cost-effective alternative to add security. The only downside is that they don't offer the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt, and therefore don't stop external access if the door has been left open.

The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we stock are made by the industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are made from high quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's warranty.

They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a replacement model called the Paddock Lock. They will feature a cylinder with 82mm diameter on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are supplied inserted in the back plate while others can be removed to allow for different fixing centres.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches, the simplest of door handles are used. Pressing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it shut, and can be locked using the use of a key. Some lever privacy handles operate in the same way however, with the addition of an Snib (like a doorknob).

A snib can be very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are crucial. If your spouse is expected to arrive at home late from work, you can apply the snib so that they won't be able to enter until they're ready to move in. This type handle is also used in doors that are inside such as bedrooms, where you might require a lock to prevent access from outside.

Snib buttons can cause issues in certain circumstances, especially when you have old locks and warped doors. If the snib button was accidentally pressed, or by someone who is not familiar with it, your door may shut and lock you out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking on the door frame or the letterbox. However this isn't the best option.

If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These can be retrofitted over double glazed door handles turn pull handle kits and come with cover plates to hide existing holes, for a seamless install. The E-LOK makes use of a smart application to allow you to open the door using RFID cards or mechanical keys and is able to be set up with passcodes for secure entry and convenience. The system is tested to 200,000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are constructed using a solid metal structure and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for corrosion resistance.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is typically used for front doors. It offers the benefit of preventing the door being opened without a key from the outside in the event that the lock has not been deadlocked. This is accomplished by the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks into the gap between the handles and the lock case to stop the latch from being withdrawn or the door from being opened.

This kind of handle is designed to fit uPVC doors fitted with multipoint locks that operate using split spindle technology. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be mounted within the same lock case. This can be a simple change from the current uPVC handles, but it could also require a change to the lock case or a new set of handles to accommodate this additional function.

These levers/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors. They feature a slide bearing that is maintenance-free as well as spring cassettes and fixing lugs supplied. The handles have a cut-out for a euro lock handles-profile, and can be installed on a variety of uPVC or doors made of timber.

Lever moveable pads are offered in a variety of finishes and fit many different multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle locks that have the 92mm cylinder as their centre and require a special set of split spindles provided by the lock maker.

These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are made from cast aluminium with an anodised finish that is corrosion resistant and has high scratch resistance. These handles can be used conjunction with many other Hoppe products, including patio door handles. french door handles and window locking handles handles. They also have an escutcheon for security.

Lever/Moveable Snib

The lever/lever handle is one of the most popular types of upvc door handles and comes in a range of styles. It is made up of two inline handles that can be moved and locked using a thumbturn cylinder or the use of a key. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever or lever handle and consists of an adjustable or fixed pad that can be used to control the lock. These Fullex handles feature a spring lever pad and a snib that can be activated to ensure the latch is held.
